Day Habilitation

Our Day Habilitation Without Walls is a community-based program for people supported that focuses on skill-building, socialization, and community integration—without being limited to a traditional center or facility.

Key Features:

  1. Community-Based Activities:

    • All services take place in real-world settings such as libraries, parks, gyms, museums, volunteer sites, or local businesses.

    • People supported are actively engaged in their communities throughout the day.

  2. Person-Centered Planning:

    • Activities are tailored to each group’s goals, interests, and abilities.

    • The program helps people build on their independence and self-advocacy.

  3. Skill Development:

    • Focuses on enhancing life skills (e.g., money management, cooking, and hygiene).

    • Opportunities for practicing social skills, communication, and problem-solving in real-life contexts.

  4. Volunteer or Pre-Vocational Opportunities:

    • People Supported may volunteer at local organizations or receive job-readiness training.

    • These activities help build work habits and explore employment interests.

  5. Schedules:

    • Groups may be mobile throughout the day, going from one site to another based on planned activities.

Partnerships:

Partnerships throughout Day Habilitation program include volunteer sites such as Meals on Wheels, Staten Island Giving Circle, Snug Harbor, and Lighthouse Museum. We also have recreational partnerships with sites such as Chance 2 Dance, Illuminart, Yoga, and Social Hour with NYPL.
